SCORE REPORTING — TEXTING in 2020!
A KEY part of NCHVC is our immediate score updates to brackets. For this to happen, coaches (or whomever they appoint) MUST report the scores right after the set is over.
TEXT SCORES to updated # (405) 254-8345 (this is an online text number & cannot receive calls)
PLEASE use this format when Texting scores:
1. Gender w/ Age group and then BRACKET or POOL Title (ex. Girls 16u Class 5A)
2. Team name w/ score vs Team name w/ score
Example: Girls 18u Pool B San Juan Rams 25,25 vs HECHA 22,19
We have hundreds of sets played at Nationals every day, so the bracket or pool title (think of it as your street address) is KEY. It makes finding your game and recording the scores quickly possible.
Please text scores or photos of the score sheets immediately following the set or match. We will update the pools or brackets when we receive them. Pools & Brackets will only be available for viewing online, where they are updated in real-time as the scores are reported.
Fans, Parents, Directors, & Coaches–
The NCHC has a straight forward policy that only the Head Coach may approach Tournament staff (directors, etc.) regarding issues or requests during the event. Additionally, any referee complaints are to be submitted via email by the athletic director or head coach to rob@flattmail.com This will limit our staff to working with “only” 96 Individuals during Nationals.
Fans (anyone other than the head coach or AD) can submit any complaints, requests, or issues to our staff following the completion of Nationals.
T-SHIRT SALES
Once again Fine Designs will have T-shirts set up all day Thursday-Saturday.

LIVESTREAM: This year, we know that it might be difficult for many of your team’s fans to travel to Nationals. The NCHC wanted to make sure everyone has ample opportunity to watch their athletes and those athletes and teams showcased! This year the NCHC has partnered with the HyVee arena to make every court and each game available for Live Stream! A few critical notes, first, we have never offered more than 1-2 featured games at Nationals before. Second, to be able to offer all 12 courts at one time we had to concede a few areas. First, the games will not feature a scoreboard, play by play/color commentating. Second, there will be a fair fee with the option of just a single game, daily pass, or even weekly access, with the full week being under $20. With this said, we are thrilled that Hyvee has a Live & On-Demand service available for those unable to attend. To find more info on livestream Click Here
The HyVee Arena and NCHC strongly encourage high-risk fans and family to utilize this service instead of traveling and physically attending.

PREGAME Prayer– Adjusted for 2020
We ask that the two teams meet on the court before the match for a prayer, which the home team’s coach will lead. Due to the desire to reduce contact, there will be no-huddle or circle together during the prayer before each game; instead, each team will stay on their side of the court. After prayer, please have your starters immediately report to the end lines to be ready to begin play.
DAILY BIBLE VERSES– We provide daily verses for the coaches to share with their team.
THURSDAY- Philippians 2:3
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.
FRIDAY- 1 Samuel 12:24
But be sure to fear the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you.
SATURDAY- Colossians 3:23-24
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
COVID-19 Info:
1) Facility & Mask Policies– Following the initial COVID-19 shutdown, the Hy-vee Arena has re-opened and has been successfully running tournaments since June. Hy-vee has not canceled any events since re-opening. Here is additional information on the Hy-vee Arena that they provided to us.
“From the beginning of June 2020 to today, we have held 11 events, 8 of them have been on a national level. Please note that there have been over 2600 health department reports throughout Kansas City concerning Covid-19 related issues and we have not been cited in any. We want your organization, students and parents to know that we have taken every precaution to ensure the safety and well-being of our guests… Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.”
Hy-vee’s current policy & mandates are: “adults wear masks indoors at all times if social distancing cannot happen. Kids under the age of 19 do not have to wear masks.” The HyVee Arena is being very proactive in the protection of athletes though day-to-day procedures as well as tournament specific actions. Some of these include
– Coaches are not required to wear a mask while on the court. Table workers (scorekeepers, libero tracker, scoreboard operator, and line judges) are encouraged to wear masks while near the court.
– HyVee Arena requires that every person entering the facility be checked for a temperature.
– Signage laying out tips to avoid the spread of COVID-19, rules for entering, and directing the flow traffic inside the facility;
– Every athlete, coach and fan must have a waiver on file that confirms that they have not been exposed to COVID within 14 days before Nationals.
– The week of Nationals, we will send out a waiver that every athlete and coach must fill out that confirms that they have not been exposed to COVID within 14 days before Nationals.
– Specific doors labeled entrance and exit only, as well as graphics on the floor to communicate clearly
– Only players, coaches, and score table workers will be allowed on the courts, Fans will be seated in the bowl seating around the arena
– Hand Sanitizer stations throughout the facility
– Large seating sections to encourage social distancing
– Regular cleaning and sanitization of restrooms and public areas
– Food Court seating separated to ensure social distancing
– Athletes, coaches, and fans should not come to the tournament if they are showing symptoms of COVID-19
– There will be no post-game handshakes after each game
– Teams will not switch sides after each set
– Due to the desire to reduce contact, there will be no huddle together during the prayer before each game. Each team will stay on their own side of the court and play will begin after the prayer.
HyVee Arena requires that every person entering the facility be checked for a temperature.
-*NEW* Teams who are not playing are strongly encouraged to leave the facility
Additionally, our Head Ref and Coordinator has assured us that refs will be ready to go and will be following all recommended procedures. She also said, “Officials will wear masks and either use an electronic whistle or keep it in their mask at all times.”
If these policies change the NCHC will contact registered families, coaches, and teams right away.
REQUIRED COVID-19 Liability Release Waiver
Significant Changes to 2020 Nationals
Some of the below-listed changes are just practical, some are just COVID-19 related, and others are both. A perfect example is this year’s Score Reporting Process. Because of the size of the Hy-vee Arena, it is practical to change score reporting to texting as opposed to requiring coaches or team runners to turn in the score sheets after each set. It is also consistent with what we are trying to do in terms of COVID-19 precautions. Numerous previously posted COVID-19 pre-cautions have been promoted by the NCHC leading up to this post. These below are in addition to the previously posted changes.
Required Coach, Player, Parent, Family, & Fan COVID-19 Liability Release Waiver
No Optional Coaches Meeting
Score Reporting via Texting
Age group waves by time block whenever possible
No 2020 Coaches Game
No 2020 All-Region/All-American Game
No 2020 Large Gathering Award Ceremony
Significant Changes to REF team responsibilities/assignments
Major Livestream Changes
Adjustment to Pre-Game Prayer & Scripture Reading
